
Dr. Brian Furlong
Director
Brian Furlong is psychiatrist and former Chief of Staff at Homewood Health Centre. He is an expert in emergency and acute-care psychiatry as well a key executive leader at Homewood with responsibility for directing clinical outcomes, strategies and initiatives throughout the centre.
Brian began his professional career as a social worker first in pediatrics and then in acute-care psychiatry. After graduating with a degree in medicine from McMaster University, he completed his residency in McMaster’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences. He is now a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Ontario Medical Association, the Ontario Psychiatric Association and the American Association of Emergency Psychiatry.
A faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at McMaster, Brian is an active teacher. He is also chair of the Waterloo Regional Psychiatry Evaluation Subcommittee of the Post-graduate Education Program. He is an examiner with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and recently completed the Ontario Medical Association/Canadian Medical Association York University Master’s in Physician Leadership Development Program.
