James Schlegel is the chief executive officer of RBJ Schlegel Holdings, the company that oversees Schlegel Health Care, Schlegel Poultry and Schlegel Urban Developments.  James is also president and CEO of Schlegel Health Care, the company that includes Schlegel Villages and Homewood Health.  Schlegel Villages develops and operates continuum-of-care campuses for seniors across Ontario, providing long-term care, retirement, assisted living, memory care and independent apartments on each site.  Homewood Health is a national mental health and addictions service network that provides programs involving education, prevention, treatment and aftercare.

James is a board member of the of the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) at the University of Waterloo, an innovative partnership of 19 long-term care and retirement communities, the University of Waterloo and Conestoga College.  Schlegel Villages are research and development sites for RIA researchers and the results of that research are applied within the villages and disseminated to the broader sector.  These results also inform curriculum development to enhance the training of future health care workers in Ontario.

A Chartered Accountant who earned a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Waterloo, James is a member of the board of directors of the Grand River Hospital and of the University of Waterloo Board of Governors.
