
Dr. Ron Pond

Ron Pond began his career as a family physician in Port Colborne, Ontario before beginning the residency program in psychiatry at State University of New York at Buffalo. After completing the residency in child psychiatry at McMaster University, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as a qualified specialist in psychiatry.
Ron joined Homewood Health as a staff psychiatrist, later becoming medical director and then executive director. Following a major reorganization of Homewood, Ron was appointed president and CEO of Homewood Health Centre. He retired from Homewood in 1997, maintaining a limited psychiatric practice in Waterloo.
Ron has held a number of positions in the Welland County Medical Association and the Wellington County Medical Association and was also a long-serving representative on the Ontario Medical Association Council. He was a member of the board of the Ontario Psychiatric Association, a member of the executive of the Ontario District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and a district representative to the APA National Assembly. He is a former surveyor for the Canadian Council for Health Services Accreditation (now called Accreditation Canada).
In his local community, Ron has volunteered in leadership positions with the Wellington Dufferin District Health Council, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and the K-W Chamber of Commerce Physician Recruitment Committee.
