Kiran Punia

Kiran is working toward her PhD at McMaster University in the Clinical Psychology program under the mentorship of Dr. James MacKillop at the Peter Boris Centre for Addictions Research (PBCAR). Kiran completed her Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour and her Masters of Science in Neuroscience, also at McMaster University under the mentorship of Dr. Iris Balodis. Kiran has been involved in research in both trainee and staff roles at the PBCAR and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton since 2016 and has diverse research and project management experience. This includes multiple clinical and experimental research methodologies and working with different populations including those with substance use disorders, eating disorders, and borderline personality disorder. Kiran’s research interests include examining relationships between mental health symptoms and how they relate to substance use and treatment outcomes, and the influence of stress and impulsivity on substance use.
